{"id":2668,"date":"2010-10-11T15:59:33","date_gmt":"2010-10-11T21:59:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/royceeddington.com\/?p=2668"},"modified":"2010-10-11T15:59:33","modified_gmt":"2010-10-11T21:59:33","slug":"google-is-making-their-awesome-411-service-walk-the-plank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/royceeddington.com\/?p=2668","title":{"rendered":"Google is making their awesome 411 service walk the plank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Google is making thousands of phones cry this week by <a href=\"http:\/\/googleblog.blogspot.com\/2010\/10\/goodbye-to-old-friend-1-800-goog-411.html\">announcing they&#8217;re going to cut off their free 1-800-GOOG-411 service on November 12th of this year.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/royceeddington.com\/?p=95\">I mentioned this awesome service back in September &#8217;09<\/a>, and I&#8217;ve used it pretty much daily. It has been a lifesaver on my trips through the Texas yonderosa, and has consistently been on my top 10 speed dial favorites for over two years.<\/p>\n<p>Google seems to be keel-hauling all ships that aren&#8217;t flying under the &#8220;Android&#8221; flag with this move, pointing out that you can still use Voice Input and Voice Actions on Android phones, but all other phones can suck it. (Actually, that &#8220;suck it&#8221; part was my interpretation of <a href=\"http:\/\/googleblog.blogspot.com\/2010\/10\/goodbye-to-old-friend-1-800-goog-411.html\">their press release<\/a> about the Voice Input and Actions bit.)<\/p>\n<p>Google still says &#8220;you can send a text message with the name and location of the business to 466453 (&#8220;GOOGLE&#8221;) and we\u2019ll text you the information&#8221;, so that&#8217;s still something awesomely free.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m writing gblog@google.com to shamelessly plead for mercy myself.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/googleblog.blogspot.com\/2010\/10\/goodbye-to-old-friend-1-800-goog-411.html\">Here&#8217;s the official press release from Google<\/a>. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Google is making thousands of phones cry this week by announcing they&#8217;re going to cut off their free 1-800-GOOG-411 service on November 12th of this year.
