Then, in a fit of pure evil, releases an update that adds &#8220;in-app purchases&#8221; that are not even necessary. Once you update the game, though, you can&#8217;t go back to the previous version.<\/p>\n<p>I recently found a way around this.<\/p>\n<p>First, we have to do a little preventative maintenance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP ONE:<\/strong> Launch iTunes and click on the APPS section under LIBRARY.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 125px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/royceeddington\/6898844210\/in\/photostream\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"01 App Backup And Restore\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7240\/6898844210_186e3ed566_o.png?resize=115%2C204\" alt=\"01 App Backup And Restore\" width=\"115\" height=\"204\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">01 App Backup And Restore<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP TWO:<\/strong> Pick an app. Any app. It really doesn&#8217;t matter which. (These are all of the apps you have ever downloaded in iTunes.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 205px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/royceeddington\/7044938307\/in\/photostream\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"04 App Backup And Restore\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7092\/7044938307_a24c1b6997.jpg?resize=195%2C500\" alt=\"04 App Backup And Restore\" width=\"195\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">04 App Backup And Restore<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP FIVE:<\/strong> Go to EDIT in the top menu and go to SELECT ALL. All of the items in the MOBILE APPLICATIONS folder should then be highlighted.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 333px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/royceeddington\/7044938341\/in\/photostream\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"05 App Backup And Restore\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7119\/7044938341_b66948c3dc_o.png?resize=323%2C225\" alt=\"05 App Backup And Restore\" width=\"323\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">05 App Backup And Restore<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP SIX:<\/strong> Now go to FILE and LABEL and choose a label color. (I chose green). All of the apps in the MOBILE APPLICATIONS folder should then change to that color.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 346px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/royceeddington\/7044938391\/in\/photostream\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"06 App Backup And Restore\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5326\/7044938391_dbbd86bfb9.jpg?resize=336%2C500\" alt=\"06 App Backup And Restore\" width=\"336\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">06 App Backup And Restore<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>STEP SEVEN:<\/strong> Close the MOBILE APPLICATIONS folder.**<\/p>\n<p>Now when you go to the iTunes store and UPDATE an app (again, in this example I used TIMENOTES)&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/royceeddington\/6898844170\/in\/photostream\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"07 App Backup And Restore\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5115\/6898844170_1614e8e3fe.jpg?resize=500%2C266\" alt=\"07 App Backup And Restore\" width=\"500\" height=\"266\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">07 App Backup And Restore<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;when the UPDATE is done, open the TRASH in the dock.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 510px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/royceeddington\/7044938169\/in\/photostream\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"08 App Backup And Restore\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5191\/7044938169_0d7474bd07.jpg?resize=500%2C113\" alt=\"08 App Backup And Restore\" width=\"500\" height=\"113\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">08 App Backup And Restore<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s the <strong><em>OLD<\/em><\/strong> version of the app!!<\/p>\n<p>The updated app is already in the Mobile Applications folder, but iTunes keeps a copy of the old version of the app in the TRASH for a limited time!<\/p>\n<p>Drag it out and save it somewhere for safekeeping!<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t like the &#8220;updated&#8221; app, just follow steps one through four and delete the &#8220;updated&#8221; version from the MOBILE APPLICATIONS folder. Then copy the old version of the app back into the MOBILE APPLICATIONS folder and re-sync your iPad or iPhone.<\/p>\n<p>Done!<\/p>\n<p>** Addendum: If you want to be extra cautious about backing up your apps, follow steps one through six and copy everything in the mobile applications folder to a external drive for a complete backup. You can also tell which apps have been recently updated because they will <em><strong>not<\/strong><\/em> have a color-label.<\/p>\n<p>*** Addendum #2: For those of you who noticed, yes, I have a LOT of apps.
