Yahoo! Editorial has added my photo to their gallery!

I just got an email that Yahoo! Editorial added one of my photos to their official gallery of hurricane Alex. I’m one of only 8 photos and one video they selected.

Here’s the link to the Yahoo! Hurricane Alex gallery.

So far, hurricane Alex isn’t too bad. There’s a ton of rain and some higher-than-average wind, but nothing like hurricane Dolly. The power is still on and only flickered a few times.

I’ll upload some photos tomorrow of what things look like around town.

WalMart runs low on stock as hurricane Alex closes in [PHOTOS]

Last night I had to make a late run to WalMart to get some extra oil for the generator and saw the store’s “hurricane” inventory had been depleted.

What was a large shelf of tarps a few days ago was mostly gone.

The flashlights? Except for the very expensive sets, they were sold out.

The camping lights were all out and so was all of the propane.

And you know things are getting bad when all the Ramen shelves are bare.

As I was leaving, the night shift workers were pulling palettes of inventory out to re-stock.

On a related note, if I was an inventory manager for WalMart and saw there were “emergency” items that nobody wanted to buy even in a hurricane situation, I would seriously reconsider keeping the item in stock at all.

I was at the local Sam’s club to pick up some last minute items and saw this.

Bread was just about out. Water. Every generator was gone.

Current oil spill photo from NASA [PHOTO]

This is how bad the oil spill in the Gulf Of Mexico is right now…

Oil Spill as of 06/22/10

That little white dot in the lower left area is where the oil spill started.

Those little patches of blue are what’s left of the ocean.

Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting.

EDIT / UPDATE: Just found this forecast of its’ potential spread…

I can save $9,996.40 on paper clips? [PHOTO]

So there I was at the local Staples when I found the sale to end all sales.

Apparently I can save $9,996.40 on this one item!

The Texas Double Whopper makes treadmills weep

So I was at the drive through getting a BK Mocha Joe (my Friday crack fix, thankyouverymuch), when I saw this billboard on the side of the drive-thru.

I usually don’t hit the Whoppers because I know they’re bad, but this one actually looked pretty good. Double beef, bacon, cheese, and jalapenos! I actually forgot about Whataburger for a brief second!

Out of curiosity, I Googled the Texas Double Whopper to see just how bad it is. Caloriecount confirmed what I suspected…

I don’t think my treadmill has a setting for DAMN.

Anyhow, I also found this commercial about the Texas double Whopper too. It made me laugh, but I still ain’t touching that sandwich with someone else’s 10 foot pole.

77 CDs for $77

I’ve been lagging behind posting because I found a local department store in town that’s been quietly getting rid of their entire audio CD department.

Every new shrink wrapped CD with a red sticker is $1.

This is a major brand-name store too, so I know they’re all legit CDs.

Sooooo needless to say I’ve been going slightly bananas. Last night I picked up 77 CDs for $77. If I bought them for their average price of $11.99, I would have spent $923.23 to get these same 77 CDs, so I actually saved $846.23.

The photo has last night’s run stacked 5 CDs high (except for the top left corner with Stevie Wonder).

White Stripes, Ray Charles, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, She Wants Revenge, Parliament, BB King, Usher, Lenny Kravitz, Elton John, Black Eyed Peas, MGMT, Paula Cole, Melissa Etheridge, Staind, Static X, Willie Nelson, The Boxmasters… they’ve got everything. Even The Rocky Horror Picture Show Soundtrack!

I’m going back later today to see if there’s anything left after the official announcement was made earlier today.

Now I need to get a really big frikin’ hard drive to rip these to!

Late April Skies and Stormy Sunsets [PHOTOS]

Just some more late April skies and assorted sunsets that were fighting through the clouds to make it through.

The weather down here was nice for a few days. Stormy and cool with the occasional clear spot in the mid afternoon. Now it’s just humid and perfectly still.

Just another random photo of a Texas sunset in April. The breeze was still warm and fast from the early afternoon, quickly pushing the visiting clouds away.

Return to Falfurrias Overpass [PHOTOS]

While driving around south Texas last week, I saw there was some more progress on that overpass in Falfurrias.

The wiry strands from my last visit are now encased in pillars of concrete, and horizontal support beams for the overpass are now in place.

The “downtown” area of Falfurrias is directly behind me where I took the photos. If you take the road going straight past the Burger King, you’ll get to Kingsville in about 40 minutes. To the left where the overpass is pointing is North and will get you to Alice, Texas. To the right going south about an hour is McAllen.

The overpass project is moving pretty fast. Since Falfurrias is the first town past the inspection checkpoint, I wonder if they’re going to run the overpass all the way south to meet it?
